Hello Mommies, did you miss us?
Our website did not have updates for several months- this was due to my very busy schedule at work. In that quiet period, I have been itching to write about all those ideas in my head, but kept putting it off due to competing priorities. Now, in this ungodly hour, I finally decided to start typing…
Year two is one big roller coaster ride. The first half was really great. Sales were up and we were very optimistic about the HQ’s future. But then, the second half of the year has really brought us back down to earth. With it, are the lessons we learned that we would like to pass on to aspiring mompreneurs.
Mommy Issa and I were extremely happy about the support we received. We spent less hours advertising in cloth diapering groups, but still we get referrals from other moms (we love you, mommies!).
Good customer relations. Hats off to Mommy Issa, she’s the one in charge of the Facebook page account. She’s always quick to answer inquiries and is very patient in answering the queries – especially of those who are curious about cloth diapers. Most of the time, it’s not converted to sales. Nonetheless, we are happy to help spread the word about cloth diapers.
Those fun promos? Those were her ideas, too. Can’t take credit for that. Actually, you’ll know if I’m the one who created the ad or post – it’s usually bland and formal and sometimes injected with a bit of dry humor.
Improved collaboration. Mommy Issa and I are living miles apart from each other. We communicate through Facebook’s messaging feature. But more often than not, we get sooo distracted by other topics that it becomes difficult to back track HQ related conversations. If you’re in the same situation like us, here’s a tip: create a Facebook group.
To add, do consider Google apps. Google docs is extremely helpful to track our inventory.
Product expansion. This one is a hit and miss, but I’d like to focus on the latter. Mommy HQ is a small fish in the sea of cloth diaper resellers. In fact, we are not direct importers, merely resellers. Because of this, we are unable to compete with the price wars. So, we had to be creative.
We believe we’re the only ones offering bundles of different types of cloth diapers. In our first year, we had covers (Baby Chic/Cluebebe), pockets (Alva/Cluebebe), fitteds (Baby Chic) and traditional cloth diapers (flats/lampins). Last year, were able to include Dandy Nappy’s AIOs and this means you can try up to 4 types of cloth diapering systems in one bundle. We are currently on a lookout for suppliers of prefolds and hybrid fitteds-do you have recommendations?
What needs to be improved
I do not want to label this section as what went wrong. I would like to believe that there are no problems, just challenges. When we overcome it, we become a better version of ourselves – and the same philosophy applies to MHQ.
Inventory management. We started out great for year two, however, we failed to plan for the inventory. Sometimes we have too much inventory, and sometimes items are out of stock for months. I am in charge of this aspect, and I recognize that there is a NEED for analyzing the data so I can see the trend.
There were also instances when we’re not able to sell the products right away because I did not have time to take product photos. Late upload means some opportunities are lost.
Social media management. We’re depending heavily of Facebook for sales. And sad to say, the recent changes in the algorithm for posts that appear on our news feeds has affected the HQs visibility. My hubby, Daddy B, has been complaining that he can’t see recent posts of Mommy HQ page. It seems, we need to invest more to be more visible. Or, we need to expand to other media. (Like, be active on our website, perhaps?)
What to expect from us
For the next eleven months, we are keen on improving and introducing a lot of things. We cannot divulge all of them, but for me to be motivated, I will mention one thing: shopping cart.
Yes, I am determined to be able to put up a shopping cart to make it easy for you to find our products. My goal is to have it done by end of this year – hopefully there won’t be distractions again!
How about you, mommies? Do you have feedbacks or suggestions for improvement? Feel free to send us an email at email@example.com. We’d love to hear from you
Have a great day ahead!
